Cedar Lane Update (Week of 3/26)

Dear Cedar Lane Community,
As you know, Governor Northam announced earlier this week that all Virginia K-12 schools will be closed for the remainder of the academic year. This news is very disappointing, but the safety of our community is most important. I know that this announcement not only brings disappointment to you and your children, but also raises many questions as to what the remainder of the school year will look like. Fairfax County Public Schools will provide all of us with additional information in the coming days, as they first must receive guidance from the Virginia Department of Education regarding continuity of learning, SOLs, graduation requirements, delivery of special education services, and so many other important items.
I know that everyone wants to know the plan, and Cedar Lane staff are eager to learn the details, so that we can begin planning for the rest of this school year. In times like these, it is hard to hear that we all need to remain patient, but these are unprecedented times. I can assure you that FCPS leadership is working around the clock to develop a well-thought out plan that ensures equal access for all students. Now that schools are closed for the remainder of this year, this plan must shift from continuity of learning (providing resources for academic content already taught) to distance learning and determining how to best introduce new content.
I’ve asked our teachers to start communicating with their IEP caseload families to share preliminary plans for Distance Learning which we anticipate starting on April 14th. They will continue reaching out to stay connected with your children, as it important that our students understand how much we care and that we will be here for them to support them. In the meantime, the self-directed activities on the FCPS website and the FCPS distance learning Blackboard site continue to be updated, and cable channels (with instructional programming) are up and running.
Please let me know if you have questions about this information and stay safe!
