Extra fun at Cedar Lane
Academics are not the only thing our students participate in at Cedar Lane. We believe that activities can supplement the learning environment. All activities occur during the day, all students are encouraged to participate.
Ladies First Council
Ladies First helps Cedar Lane's female students perform at their highest potential academically, behaviorally and socially by providing them with a space for fellowship and through addressing issues young teen women face on a daily basis.
Literary Magazine & Yearbook
Cedar Lane students create a monthly newsletter and design the layout of the yearbook. Students write articles, take photos and combine their artistic work collaboratively.
Daily production of the Cedar Lane News. Students write stories, research facts, create videos, and run the production of the news.
Our students run a recycling program at Cedar Lane. Weekly, they make our world a better place.
A whole day devoted to creative writing. Come join us in the main lobby and let your creative juices flow!
A wonderful day with books, magazines, bean bags, rocking chairs, cookies and READING! This is a student favorite here at Cedar Lane.
Open Mic/Spoken Word
Our library is converted to a coffee house. Students perform poems, music and drama. A great way to spend your lunch time. Held once a month on the third Thursday.
Cedar Lane's Basketball Team
Reigning champions in the VA Alternative League for the past 5 years. Games are held during the day. Students must be on Level 3 to play. We are good, indeed!
Designed to increase a student's awareness of others, Learning Seminars happen during Panther Time every Friday. All students share thoughts and feelings and examples from their own life experiences based on a particular topic.
Alternating with the Circle Topics, these lessons are designed and built by our Intensive Alternative Behavior Support (IABS) Teacher. The purpose is to increase and support pro-social behaviors in and outside of school.
Cedar Lane hosts a book club for both teachers and students. Book Club meets in the library on Wednesdays from 11:00 AM to 11:25 AM. Readers share a synopsis of the current book they are reading and get exposure to other books from other readers.
Cedar Lane offers a late bus on Mondays. Students are encouraged to stay after school for help with subject matter or to work on extra projects. Students must notify their homeroom teacher in the morning that they plan to ride the late bus home.
